Who we are

Our HISTORY

Jason and Carol Sapp founded Heritage House of Virginia after relocating to Stafford, Virginia from Georgia and discovering a profound lack of support services for individuals with developmental disabilities.  Motivated by their past work at Georgia Baptist Family Ministries, they channeled their experience and family’s expertise to launch Heritage House as a licensed provider.  In April 2002 the first group home opened its doors.  Since then, Heritage House of Virginia has grown exponentially to serve five group homes and a major day program in Stafford, while also expanding its mission to southwest Georgia with an additional day center and two group homes.

Our Mission

Heritage House of Virginia, Inc. is a faith-based, family-owned organization dedicated to empowering adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live meaningful, self-directed lives as valued members of their communities. Through person-centered supports, individualized services, and a culture of respect, dignity, and inclusion, we partner with each person to identify and achieve their unique goals, preferences, and dreams.

We believe that every individual has the right to make choices, exercise personal freedoms, build relationships, contribute to their community, and pursue opportunities that enhance their quality of life. We are committed to providing services that promote independence, self-advocacy, community engagement, health, safety, and lifelong learning while honoring each person’s strengths, abilities, culture, and personal values.

At Heritage House, we recognize that success is not measured by comparing one person to another, but by helping each individual achieve outcomes that are meaningful to them. Through evidence-based practices, continuous quality improvement, and a highly trained and compassionate workforce, we strive to create environments where people are supported to grow, thrive, and reach their fullest potential.

Our commitment extends beyond the individuals we serve to their families, guardians, support networks, employees, and community partners. Together, we foster relationships built on trust, accountability, stewardship, and mutual respect, ensuring that every person has the opportunity to live, work, participate, and belong in the community of their choice.

Heritage House of Virginia is committed to excellence in service delivery, compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, and the advancement of person-centered practices that support meaningful lives and positive outcomes.
